About the event

World Stuttering Network, Stuttering Scholarship Association, and Stamily are thrilled to celebrate International Stuttering Awareness Day with an online Human Library. This concept originated from a social experiment that has gained popularity across 50 countries and counting. "Listeners" will be put into a Zoom Room with a person who stutters or who has ties to the stuttering community ie--a parent of a child who stutters. Instead of borrowing a book from the Zoom library, the listener will "borrow" the person who stutters and listen to their story. The listener might even then become the sharer. After all, everyone has shame and fear about something, and one person's vulnerability and willingness to share can empower others to follow suit.

What lies beneath the stigmatized label of "stutterer?" Why, a whole beautiful person with more intricacies and facets than a diamond. What would the world be like if we learned to look past stigmatized labels and really listen to one another? We'd love to find out--and hope you can join us!

The Human Library will take place at two different times on October 22, World Stuttering Awareness Day. We will welcome participants from around the globe from 12:00-1pm EDT, and again from 8pm-9pm EDT.
